Rahma Recovery Center

Building the Financial Foundation for a Mission That Matters at Rahma Recovery Center

Rahma Recovery Center is Washington’s first culturally responsive sober living home for East African and Muslim men, located in Federal Way, Washington. Built on a foundation of faith, structure, and brotherhood, Rahma provides a halal-friendly, substance-free environment where residents can heal, grow, and rebuild their lives with purpose. Their program is led by men who have personally navigated addiction and recovery, bringing a depth of understanding and compassion that is central to everything they do.

Rahma had built something real in a short amount of time: a trusted program, a growing community, and a mission that was clearly resonating. What the organization needed next was the financial infrastructure to sustain and expand that impact. With no active individual donor program and a reliance on government funding, Rahma’s leadership recognized the need to diversify revenue, build fundraising confidence, and learn how to tell their story in a way that invites community investment.

Oaktree Institute partnered with Rahma’s Executive Director, Brother Hussain Ugas, through a focused one-to-one fund development coaching engagement led by Fund Development Specialist Nadeem Riaz. The work began with two complimentary discovery sessions to understand Rahma’s current landscape and goals, followed by six dedicated monthly coaching sessions over six months. Every session was tailored to Brother Hussain’s leadership, Rahma’s unique community, and the specific opportunities ahead.

Through this engagement, Rahma’s leadership gained a clearer picture of their fundraising potential and a practical path forward. Key areas of growth included building a diversified fundraising strategy, developing an approach to community giving moments like Ramadan and year-end campaigns, and strengthening the ability to communicate Rahma’s story compellingly to donors and supporters. Brother Hussain left the engagement with greater confidence, clearer priorities, and the tools to begin building lasting donor relationships.

Rahma Recovery Center is doing work that is deeply needed and genuinely transformative. Oaktree Institute is honored to have walked alongside them in this season of growth, and we look forward to seeing Rahma build the community-supported foundation that will carry their mission forward for years to come.
