Nonprofit Summit
Michigan Leaders Had a Historic Gathering This Past Weekend

In collaboration between the Michigan Muslim Community Council and Oaktree Institute, leaders from masajid, nonprofits, and community organizations across the state came together for the Michigan Nonprofit Leadership Summit 2026 — a full day dedicated to strengthening the institutions that serve our community.
What happened in that room was more than training.
It was unity.
It was ideation.
It was networking
It was momentum.
Leaders across the state who rarely, if ever, communicated before were suddenly:
- exchanging ideas,
- solving real organizational challenges,
- sharing governance and staffing struggles openly,
- building relationships across cities and institutions, and
- leaving with a renewed sense of what is possible when Michigan’s Muslim community decides to move together.
The summit covered core leadership areas including:
- Volunteer & Staff Management
- Strategic Planning & Prioritization
- Board Governance & Decision‑Making
- Communication, Culture & Conflict
- Statewide Collaboration & Shared Needs Mapping
But the real story was the energy in the room: the honesty, the collaboration, the commitment to building stronger, healthier, more aligned organizations for the next generation.
Oaktree Institute is proud to have partnered with MMCC to deliver this milestone moment for the Michigan Muslim community. We hope this summit marks the beginning of a new chapter of statewide leadership development, shared strategy, and cross‑organization collaboration.
